Marrying against their wish...

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah said:
The parents do not have the right to force their child to marry someone whom he does not want, and if he refuses he is not being disobedient towards them, as is the case when he does not eat what he does not want.
Al-Ikhtiyaaraat, 344.

Shaykh Dr. Khaalid al-Mushayqih

A child is not considered to be disobedient or sinful if he does not obey his parents in this regard.

Remeber! The behavior of our parents is sometimes a test for us.

Assalamualaikum wa Rahmatullah.

This is the first time I read these lofty thoughts. Islam is such a beautiful religion, yet it is so sad to see that because of cultural practices and ego that parents force their children to commit bigger sins by compelling them to marry a person of their choice, even if it is not based on Islam.

I hope parents of this time of fitna realize that they educate their children in the light of Islam moreso in the matters of chosing their spouses right from childhood, because it is better for them to chose than to commit zina just to pursue their choices against their parent's choices.
